The canadian-german electro pop duo Cyrena Dunbar & Tommy Yamaha are celebrating their tenth anniversary in November 2016 and will be touring with a best of set of old and new songs. But let's start at the beginning ...
It was 2006 when Tommy Yamaha met canadian singer and dancer Cyrena Dunbar during studio recordings for the new The Strike Boys album („Being In A Boygroup“, Stereo Deluxe).
Sessions for the album result in new, original songs that then got released under the name Wrongkong
the next year, at first exclusively in the United States on the record label Minty Fresh, a little later the album got a european release as well (on Modernsoul). The self-produced music video for their first single „ Real Boy“
won them an award for „Best Unsigned Electronic Music Act“ at Cravefest in Toronto.
Ever since, Wrongkong have become a full band, having played multiple headlining tours as well as festival gigs at Southside, Taubertal, Weinturm Open Air,Y Not (UK) or Reeperbahn Festival, to name but a few. In 2012 they released their eponymous album „So Electric“ (AdP Records), including the hit single „My Dearest Enemy“, which was celebrated from Zündfunk to Zeit Magazin. Wrongkong was awarded the City of Nuremberg's Award For Outstanding Achievements In Arts And Culture. A mere year later, they put our their third album, „Kill The Should And Make A Do“ (AdP Records) and took it on the road through Poland, the UK, Germany, Austria and Switzerland and crowned their touring by two special „Wrongkong: extended“ shows in their hometown Nuremberg, in collaboration with a director and a performance group. After these massive two years, it got a little quieter for Cyr ena Dunbar and Tommy Yamaha.
Or so it seemed. The two of them have been working on new material ever since. A first harbinger, the EP
„ALIVE“, got released in the spring of 2016, it's lead single „Feel“ being featured in a bunch of relevant Spotify playlist, quickly reaching over 100.000 plays. Wrongkong went on presenting their news songs at three showcases in Berlin, Munich and Zurich and spending the summer as part of an opera/theatre production at this year's „Gluck Festspiele“, where they incorporate several of their songs into the production.
In the fall of 2016 then, it is time: Wrongkong are turning 10 years old and they will celebrate that by playing an extended anniversary tour. The set will contain songs from all three albums, as well as the new material and most definitely there will be a surprise or two around the corner.
