Pyro is set off, smoke bombs cover the entire pitch for several minutes. And all this with beer, banter and thousands of spectators. What we are talking about here is not the cup final or the end-of-season spurt in the tranquil Grand Duchy of Luxembourg - no.
We're talking about “the best week of the year” – relegation week !
A week in which it will be decided at all levels who will successfully fight for survival, who will triumphantly secure promotion and who can celebrate the longest despite victory or defeat. A well and truly fascinating week in which the whole footballing community of Luxembourg moves around the country like a pilgrimage witnessing truly authentic and fascinating amateur football games.
And while for years and years, we were celebrating that specific week from the outside looking in, us at “352 Football Festival” thought, why not find out what it’s all about from the inside of those truly magical games. How does it feel to play in such a game? Why do thousands of football romantics travel through the grand duchy to witness these games? Why is that week so addictive? And how the hell does it feel, to win or lose such a final?
With us switching the perspective, we accompany Jérémy Muller, an ambitious referee, who tries to guide the 22 players to a good performance, while not making any mistakes.
We’re with Tiago and Alex, who have been holding FC Jeunesse Gilsdref together for years, taking care of the team, the club and the transfers with all their heart while trying not to lose their heads during their relegation game. We’re in the dressing room, while Gilles Wagner can’t control his emotions after playing the biggest game of his coaching career with FC Käerch, while knowing that, win or lose, this will be his last game. Sprinkled throughout with the expert opinion of none other than the guys of “Missioun Grottekick”, we get as close to what the relegation week actually means, than ever before. From the dressing room, to the stands and into to the bars.
Because this is:
“The best week of the year”
We are “352”, a non-profit that made it its mission to put the social and cultural aspects of football in the centre of their work. With a festival, a magazine, podcasts and yes, documentaries.
FOOTBALL. BEER. CULTURE.
