No matter how you first encounter the music of Tuvaband from Norway, be it at a concert or a record, we promise you it will leave its traces on you. Tuva Hellum Marschhäuser, head and singer of the band, has the gift of capturing an extraordinary magic in her songs.
Her delicate compositions, which float from piano-driven folk to gently swelling post-rock, move the listener into unimagined spheres and and captivate with her feather-light singing.
It wasn't until 2018 that Tuva released her debut album "Soft Drop", which was released to celebratory critics in her home country as well as internationally. Only one year later, the second album "I Entered The Void" is already being released. A different sound that reflects the changes in Tuva's life and a deliberate step away from the minimalistic sound of her debut, to a heavier, fuller sound. The change of sound was also inspired by her new live set-up which includes guitar, drums and synthesizer. Be curious to see (and hear) the different sides of Tuvaband at De Gudde Wëllen!
Sea Change established a mix of ethereal introverted synth-pop, combining shimmery synths, electronic beats and intimate vocals in her 2015 album debut Breakage. The album was recorded and produced in her Oslo bedroom over the course of a couple of years, and it produced shimmering pop soundscapes that felt full of natural life and adventure.
Her follow up album 'INSIDE', made after relocating to Berlin, that singular city of hedonism and unrest, takes us to bolder and trippier soundscapes. Gone are the bright and wide open spaces of its predecessor, swapped for the dark, mysterious, often claustrophobic realms of the city.
Through its seven tracks, INSIDE bristles with both stark intimacy and a powerful sense of freedom, channeling the energy and state-of-mind of the club scene into something minimal and true to her own work. Here she explores the abstract fringes of pop-music, combining haunting modular textures, pitch-shifted vocals and club inspired beats.
The album is co-produced and mixed by Andrew Murray in Luft Studio, and is out via Shapes Recordings the 15th November.
